City & Country pledge to raise £10,000 for local Manningtree charity, Acorn Village

Exciting news! At City & Country, we’ve teamed up with the incredible charity, Acorn Village, located near our Manningtree Park development in Essex. Together, they’re on a mission to create more opportunities for local people with learning disabilities.

Starting this October, we have pledged to raise an impressive £10,000 over the next 12 months, all in support of Acorn Village. This fantastic charity has been making a difference in the lives of adults with learning disabilities since 1975, offering supported living, residential care, and a whole host of community activities. Their base in Mistley is less than a mile away from where we’re building Manningtree Park, a fantastic five-phase development with 484 new homes.

What makes Acorn Village so special is their commitment to helping individuals live as independently as possible while chasing their dreams. From art and therapy sessions at their Creative Craft Centre to gardening opportunities in their beautiful grounds, the charity is all about offering a brighter future. We’re proud to be joining forces with them to support their efforts and the local community.

We have plans to reach our £10,000 goal by kicking off with a range of fundraising events which will include a 25km Peak District Challenge, where teams will trek through beautiful landscapes, and we’re also planning a Staff vs. Supplier 5-a-side football match in the summer of 2025. That’s just the beginning as there will be more community-focused activities and events throughout the year helping us to reach our charitable target!

Shelley West, our Group Sales and Marketing Director, shared her excitement about the partnership, saying, “Acorn Village is just down the road from Manningtree Park and does fantastic work to support people with learning disabilities and their families, so we are excited to be working together to provide even more opportunities. Our plan is to raise £10,000 over the year, through a variety of fundraising events that will probably include a The Peak District challenge for staff, a Christmas event that will be open to the public at Manningtree Park, along with the Contractors vs. Staff five-a-side football tournament.”

Acorn Village’s Fundraising Coordinator, Jessica Eaton, also added the heart-warming philosophy that guides their work: “People First, Disability Second.” Their motto, “Life is For Living,” truly says it all. Acorn Village is dedicated to helping their service users live life to the fullest—whether it’s learning to ride a horse, joining a choir, or earning a new qualification. The support from City & Country will make it possible for them to plan even more activities and events, not just for those living in their care, but for the wider community as well.

And while all this amazing work is happening, our Manningtree Park development continues to take shape. This is one of our largest projects to date, offering everything from one- to four-bedroom houses, as well as a collection of future 1 & 2-bedroom apartments located above the charming Little Priory Café and Farm Shop in the heart of the development. looking out across the future village green. Homes at Manningtree Park are designed with a nod to traditional Essex villages, featuring uPVC sash windows, handmade clay roof tiles, and stylish touches like smart heating and beautifully finished kitchens and bathrooms.

If you’re curious about making Manningtree Park your home, prices for a 1-bedroom house with an integral garage start at £285,000. For more information, you can see the availability of homes here.
